Coffee Stops: Ninth Street Espresso
After seeing the incredibly long lines at their location in the Chelsea Market, I decided to meet up with a friend at their location on Tompkins Square Park in the East Village of NYC. (They also have a location on 9th St between Ave C and D.) The coffee shop has a great atmosphere! I enjoyed the charming people coming in and out of the shop, in addition to the newspaper left on the counter for me to peruse while waiting for my friend to show up.
The name of the game here is simplicity, and it works well for them. The menu only had 7 items, which included coffees that are brewed differently and a few different sizes of espresso drinks. (Even their store layout and logo are simple!) I got a cappuccino, which was an appropriate size. I cringe when I see stores that offer a 20oz cappuccino, as they should be much smaller to taste the espresso. The beans are simple, smooth and a little sweet, which provide the perfect drink sans sugar.
Needless to say, I wish there was one closer to me! Check out their website here: http://www.ninthstreetespresso.com/Ninth_Street_Espresso/Welcome.html
